Abstract

Much has been said, written and experimented on teaching English in comfortable circumstances. And unfortunately what is done in the context of English in comfortable circumstances is mindlessly applied in the context of teaching English in difficult circumstances. But teaching of English is not an ‘island entire to itself’. It is a part and parcel of education and language education of  a country. This paper investigates the state of teaching English in Yemen. It makes a survey of teaching in difficult circumstances in general with a  special reference to teaching/learning of English in that context.
